DeWitt Mallary, well known collector and connoisseur of Baluch group carpets, will hold an exhibition / sale of assorted rugs and textiles from his collection at the gallery of Peter Pap Oriental Rugs during the Antique Rug and Textile Show (ARTS) in San Francisco.
The show will feature an assortment of material from around the weaving world, including items from Europe, Turkey, Iran, and Central Asia, in addition to some Baluch group pieces.
The show will be on view at Peter Pap Oriental Rugs, 470 Jackson Street, San Francisco, from Saturday October 17 through Saturday October 24, 2009.
DeWitt Mallary, though best known as a collector of and occasional writer about Baluch group pile rugs, has not limited his interest or collecting activities to that group. After many years of pursuing carpets and textiles as an avocation, he has decided to dedicate his full energy to the promotion of antique textile art. Though his intent is to focus on working privately with collectors, he will be presenting occasional exhibitions, in addition to devoting more time to research, writing, and promotion of understanding and appreciation of antique textile art.
Having worked with Peter Pap in a consulting role some years ago, I was delighted that his gallery was available for me to present some pieces during the ARTS show. I look forward to seeing many old friends, and making some new ones, Mallary said, continuing I hope to be able to contribute to general consciousness-raising of our under-appreciated art form.
